On November 29, Disney's follow-up film Moana 2 is scheduled to open in theaters. Initially, the concept was intended to be a television series.

In Disney's follow-up film Moana 2, Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho are back for an exciting new journey. The animated film's first trailer looks like an exciting journey. (Also read: Disney confirms Dwayne Johnson's return and unveils a new still from the sequel, Moana 2)

Disney debuted the first trailer for Moana 2, the much awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2016 animated film, on Wednesday. Dwayne is reprising his role as Maui, and Auli'i will be back as Moana's voice.

Sea adventure

Although the trailer doesn't reveal much about the story, it does offer an overview of the excitement and action-packed second chapter. It depicts Moana embarking on a new maritime journey after hearing her ancestors' summons to "sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean." Three years later, Moana and Maui are reunited on a grand new journey with an oddball crew.

The images showcase the exquisite water animation, featuring a breathtaking view of Moana drifting before a whale shark.

The video also features Moana's pig Pua and cock Heihei. However, it appears like Pua will be traveling with Moana this time. After some fans questioned the choice to have the pet stay behind in the first film, it appears that the makers made a well-considered decision with this.

As the trailer ends, Maui joyously boards Moana's boat and asks her, alluding to the original film's storyline, "Why didn't you bring the pig last time?"

Concerning Moana 2

The film, an animated feature, is written and directed by David G. Derrick Jr. and will open in theaters on November 29. Before being revised as a theatrical sequel, the project was first created as a television series. It includes brand-new tracks by Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow. Disney unveiled the first official poster for Moana 2, which features Maui's fish hook on the beach with Moana in the backdrop, prior to the trailer's release.

Disney is also supporting Thomas Kail's live-action Moana remake. Dwayne is slated to star in the movie, which is slated to hit theaters on July 10, 2026.
