According to Sumalatha, she has only ever known Darshan to be a kind man.

Actor-politician Sumalatha finally spoke out about her feelings on Darshan's arrest for suspected murder after remaining mute since his arrest.

Actor-turned-politician Sumalatha Ambareesh expressed her feelings on Instagram over Darshan's arrest for Renukaswamy's purported murder. Sumalatha described her relationship with Darshan in a long statement written in Kannada, adding that she is "shocked" by everything that has transpired.

"You have no idea how close our families are to one another."

As per One India, Sumalatha started the note by offering her condolences to the family of Renukaswamy. She added that she was hoping he would get justice in court and that she was praying for his parents and wife.

"You do not understand the bond between my family and Darshan's family," Sumalatha stated in response to accusations that she had not spoken out since Darshan's arrest on June 11. Even before he became famous, I have known him for twenty-five years. Darshan is like a son to me, and that goes beyond his fame. He gave me a significant position in his life and always referred to Ambareesh as his father. A mother is never happy to see her son in this predicament.
