several cough syrup deaths, the drug body requests that states and UTs ensure
rigorous testing of medications.
Additionally, the Center requested
that drug controllers maintain a strong vendor qualification system and advise
them to only use raw materials from reputable suppliers.

The pharmaceutical company manufacturing the now-banned "Coldrif" cough syrup was shut down by the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday night.
The Central Drugs Standard Control
Organization (CDSCO) on Wednesday ordered drug controllers in all states and
Union territories to take steps to ensure testing and monitoring of the use or
release of any batch of medicine in the market following reports of 20 child
deaths in Madhya Pradesh as a result of consuming tainted cough syrup.
After 20 children in Madhya Pradesh
died while receiving treatment for kidney failure after consuming the
"contaminated" Coldrif cough syrup, the drug regulator issued the order.
In light of the recent child
fatalities in Chhindwara, the CDSCO stated that the directorate has
occasionally emphasized the significance of testing raw materials, including
excipients, prior to their use in the production of pharmaceutical formulations.
The pharmaceutical company that was
manufacturing the now-banned cough syrup was shut down by the Tamil Nadu
government on Tuesday night. As part of its investigation into the child
deaths, a Madhya Pradesh police special investigation team (SIT) also paid
visits to the company's manufacturing facility in Kancheepuram and registered
