Michael Rapaport, Julianna Margulies, Debra Messing, and other A-list celebrities vehemently criticized Jonathan Glazer's remarks.
With his acceptance speech, "The Zone of Interest" director Jonathan Glazer, who took home the Best International Feature Oscar, infuriated a lot of Jews. He made a connection between the contemporary Israel-Hamas conflict and the film's subject of dehumanization in his thank-you note.
"Our film shows where dehumanisation leads at its worst," Glazer stated. "How do we resist when, as men, we deny our Jewish identity and the Holocaust's exploitation by an occupation that has caused conflict for countless innocent people—whether it be the victims of October 7th in Israel or the current assault on Gaza—all of these victims of dehumanization?"
