After a brief career, veteran actor Radhika Sarathkumar—who previously collaborated with Bollywood A-listers—left the business.

1986 saw the release of T Rama Rao's family drama Naseeb Apna Apna, starring Rishi Kapoor. In addition to Farah Naaz and Rishi, Radhika Sarathkumar had a crucial part in the movie. Before entering active politics, the latter rose to prominence in South industry in the ensuing years. Radhika is the daughter of politician and actor MR Radha from Tamil Nadu. Geetha, her mother, was a Tamil from Sri Lanka, therefore she studied in India, Sri Lanka, and the UK. In 1985, Malayalam actor and producer Pratap Pothen wed Radhika. After that, the pair split up until Radhika wed British national Richard Hardy again.

In 2001, she got married to actor, filmmaker, and former bodybuilder Sarathkumar Ranganathan, who is now a politician. The pair co-starred in the Tamil motion pictures Suryavamsam (1997) and Namma Annachi (1994). Their daughter Rayane is married to cricketer Abhimanyu Mathur, and their eldest son Rahul. Abhimanyu plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, an IPL squad captained by Virat Kohli.

Radhika Sarathkumar's journey into acting

In 1978, Radhika debuted as an actress in the Tamil film Kizhakke Pogum Rail. She contributed to numerous other regional Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films. The veteran also produced Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai, a Tamil movie that won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Director's Debut Picture. Radhika has also received numerous Filmfare honors. She was honored with the 1981 Best Telugu Actress award for Nyayam Kavali. Later, Radhika won Best Tamil Actress for her roles in Keladi Kanmani (1990), Neethikku Thandanai (1987), and Dharma Devathai (1986).

Despite starring with Rishi and Farah in Naseeb Apna Apna, her career did not receive much support from Hindi films. Her Bollywood career did not take off, even though she worked with Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Shatrughan Sinha, and Jeetendra. Later, she returned to South Korea, where she was acclaimed.

Radhika Sarathkumar's path to politics

Radhika and her husband both joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) before the 2006 Assembly elections. October 2006 saw her expelled from the party. Prior to her recent departure, Radhika served as the Vice-President of All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi from 2007. As a BJP candidate, she will run in the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 from the Virudhunagar constituency.


In addition, Radhika performed in films like as Himmatwala, Lal Badshah, and Aaj Ka Arjun.
