Ratna Pathak Shah is not afraid to voice her thoughts on life and society. Aside from her work in avant-garde film, the actress frequently expresses her strong views on gender injustice and patriarchy. In a recent interview, Ratna discussed her interfaith marriage to Naseeruddin Shah and the reactions of her family in an interview with Hauterrfly. Ratna Pathak remembers her father's view of interfaith marriage.

"My dad wasn't completely happy, but he unfortunately passed away before we were married," the woman stated. Although Maa and Naseer's relationship was more difficult at first, they finally made up and became friends. The veteran went on, "It was odd that Naseer's family didn't raise any fuss at all. Nobody ever mentioned the term "convert," not even once. Regarding me, no one spoke. They simply welcomed me for who I am. I consider myself quite fortunate because I know of others that struggle with settling down. All of them became friends with me later on, even my mother-in-law, who was a very homebound individual but incredibly liberal in all circumstances.


Concerning Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah

On August 7, 1957, Ratna was born into a Gujarati Hindu family to Baldev Pathak and actress Deena Pathak. Supriya, her younger sister, is an actor as well. Ratna attended J. B. Vachha High School in Dadar, Mumbai, before it closed. She also attended the National School of Drama in Delhi in the 1981 batch.

In 1982, Ratna married Naseeruddin Shah. Both Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah are the couple's sons. Moreover, Imaad and Vivaan are actors. Heeba Shah is Naseeruddin's daughter from his first marriage.

Actress Ratna Pathak debuted in Mandi, directed by Shyam Benegal. Later on, she starred in well-known movies like Attack, Dhak Dhak, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Lipstick Under My Burkha, and Kapoor & Sons.
