Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, stars Shekhar Suman. The performer discussed the filmmaker's method on the filming locations.

While promoting his most recent film, Heeramandi, Shekhar Suman has been complimenting Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This is the actor's first collaboration with the filmmaker and he plays a key role in the OTT show. Shekhar defended the director against accusations that he keeps actors waiting for extended periods of time in a recent interview with Zoom TV. Shekhar was questioned concerning the director's painstaking approach, which caused the actors' shoot to be postponed. "It's like a soldier waiting for the enemy to attack," said the Heeramandi actor. He wouldn't declare, "I want to go home; I've been waiting for twelve hours." Does it take place? No, that's him! The moment the enemy approaches, he opens fire. Whether it's hot or snowing doesn't matter. An actor needs to be as ready as a military man.

"You keep doing it if you're an actor, even if Mr. Bhansali says you keep doing it for two days, three days," he continued. You are not entitled to whine about not being able to focus. Then leave immediately; you have no place as an actor. You will look back with immense satisfaction and joy whenever you do. And for that reason, he is so highly respected. Impatience is a common emotion, but it doesn't mean you should snap. Other performers are waiting due of your lack of understanding, and there is money and time involved. The director finds that to be unjust. Nobody cares how he treats his actors; that's his business.

The Indian Independence Movement against the British Raj in the 1910s–1940s provides a context for Heeramandi. The show portrays the lives of the courtesans in Lahore's Heera Mandi red-light area. In the show, Shekhar plays Nawab Zulfikar, and his son Adhyayan plays Nawab Zoravar Ali Khan. Key characters in the historical drama series include Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Fardeen Khan, and others. Netflix offers Heeramandi for streaming.
Shekhar debuted in Bollywood with Utsav, directed by Girish Karnad. Rekha, Shankar Nag, Shashi Kapoor, and Amjad played significant roles in the film as well.
