In an effort to increase Pennsylvania's cultural diversity, Governor Josh Shapiro signed a measure making Diwali an official state holiday.

Governor Josh Shapiro recently signed a measure into law that formally recognizes Diwali as a state holiday, giving over 13 million Pennsylvanians another holiday to enjoy.

What is Diwali?

The third day of the five-day celebration is Diwali, also called the "festival of lights," which represents the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. The Hindu lunisolar calendar determines this Indian holiday. Diwali will fall between October 29 and November 3 this year, with October 31 being the main day of festivities.
