Sangeeth Sivan, a filmmaker best known for Hindi films Kya Kool Hai Hum and Malayalam flicks Yodha, passed away on Wednesday.

On May 8, filmmaker Sangeeth Sivan passed away at a Mumbai private hospital, according to Asianet News. He was sixty-one. According to sources, Sangeeth passed away while receiving medical care at a private hospital for a medical condition. He is the oldest child of photographer-cinematographer Sivan and the brother of well-known director and cinematographer Santosh Sivan. The filmmaker leaves behind two children, Shanthanu and Sanjana, as well as his wife, Jayashree.

Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Sangeeth had a successful career in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. However, his first film role was as executive producer for the 1989 Aamir Khan film Raakh. His debut motion picture was 1990's Malayalam film Vyooham, starring Raghuvaran. He went on to direct popular movies like Gandharvam, Yodha, and Nirnayam, directed by Mohanlal.

In addition to Malayalam, he has directed Hindi movies such as Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Zor, Kya Kool Hai Hum, and Apna Sapna Money Money. In 2019, he directed the online series Bhram starring Kalki Koechlin and Bhumika Chawla. In March of this year, the news of his upcoming movie, Kapkapiii, starring Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor, broke.

Riteish Deshmukh lamented the passing on X (previously Twitter), saying he couldn't thank Sangeeth enough for having faith in him. I'm startled and deeply grieved to hear that Sangeeth Sivan Sir has passed away. I'm really grateful to him for Kya Kool Hai Hum & Apna Sapna Money Money. All a newbie wants is someone to believe in them and give them a chance. Kind, soft-spoken, and an amazing person. I'm devastated today; please accept my sincere sympathies to his wife, children, brothers, and other family members. You will be missed, Da! And your contagious laugh! Rest in splendor.
